We know that Jesus loves us but the real question is, do we love Jesus? Even unbelievers know John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” Everybody knows Jesus loves us because He proved His love for us on the cross when He died for our sins so that we may live. So let me ask you, do you love Jesus? Most Christians will immediately say “yes I do.” Okay but do you really love Jesus? At this point, you may feel somewhat offended and say, “I said I do.” Really? Do you really love Jesus? Now, you are probably pretty annoyed. What if I asked you, show me that you really do love Jesus. Show me that your words are not empty but true. What would your response be? True love is never just words but naturally expresses itself through some sort of action. That is why Jesus said, in John 14:15, “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.” That is why in John 21:15-17, Jesus asked Peter 3 times whether he loves Him. All three times Peter responded yes and all three times Jesus commanded him to “Tend My lambs,” “Shepherd My sheep,” and “Tend My sheep.” Why is this such a difficult concept for Christians to grasp and accept? It’s easy to say Jesus loves me and live our lives under our own lordship. It’s true discipleship when we say Jesus loves me and we love Him back by living under His Lordship. You can serve without love but you cannot love without serving. Are you involved in “Tending His lambs,” “Shepherding His sheep,” and “Tending His sheep?” If not, why not?

I want to take a brief time to thank our Small Church shepherds who on a weekly basis express their love for Christ by paying the price to shepherd His sheep. I’m so glad that you are not just sitting on the sideline but growing as a disciple by shepherding His flock.
